DEXIA is legally mandated the sole importer of two basic/essential commodities – Sugar and Bulk Rice.

The Commercial Department is responsible for the importation and wholesaling of these essential commodities.

Consequently, the Commercial Department procures quality Brown and refined White Sugar and bulk Parboiled and White Rice at the best available prices for sale to the Dominican consumer. Recently, DEXIA added a packaged brown sugar – DEMERARA GOLD – to its commodity list. DEMERARA GOLD is a sophisticated high grade, quality Brown Sugar, produced by the Guyana Sugar Corporation, packaged in 1, 2, and 5, kilo bags. Another supplementary commodity is Pett Rice, sold in 10 and 45 kilo bags exclusively for animal feed.

Because of its Caricom commitment, DEXIA purchases all of its commodities from within the Caricom area, as long as the required quality and satisfactory price are available. Presently, Brown sugar and all its bulk rice are sourced within the Caricom region.

Although some refined sugar is presently purchased within Caricom, the majority is procured on the world market when the price is right. The quality of both Sugar and Rice is pegged to the Caricom Sugar and Rice standards.
