Export Development is the focus of the Market Support Services Department (MSSD), contributing to the expansion of the export trade sector in the Commonwealth of Dominica's economy. MSSD facilitates Dominica's export of agricultural, agro-processed and manufactured goods.
Support is given to Dominican exporters in areas, such as, market intelligence, market entry requirements, product identification and development, participation in trade fairs/exhibitions and promotions, organizational development, financial risk reduction, and training.
The Departmental activities are corroborated on a Work Programme, which is formulated every two years with the inputs of the Dominica Government, private sector and staff members. Pursuits are prioritized further to the needs of the export trade sector and changes occurring in the internal and external market environment.
During the existence of the Agency, the Market Support Services Department has embarked on a number of Export Development Initiatives, despite limited resources available for funding programmes and in-sufficient human resources to manage the activities.
Namely, these are Trade Shows and Trade Promotions, Institutional Development Programmes, Marketing and Business Plan Development, Training Programmes, Interventions (Carib Craft, Frozen and Dried Foods Project, Agricultural Production Forecasting, and Crop Development) Product Development, Market Research and Market Visits, Standardization, and Dissemination of Information, and Direct Exports through the Direct Trading Division. The provision of assistance to achieve export growth for the trading sectors has been, and still is fundamental.
